Yes, there is a right and a wrong way to use a training collar or choke chain collar. The choke chain is primarily used as a correction tool during training. The idea is to give a quick, firm correction when the dog misbehaves or fails to follow a command. Apply the correction with a quick, short pull on the leash. The goal is not to choke the dog but to create a sound and a brief tightening sensation to get their attention. After delivering the correction, immediately release the pressure on the leash. This teaches the dog that the correction is associated with their behavior, and they can avoid it by responding appropriately. Never leave the choke chain tightened for an extended period. Prolonged pressure can be harmful and cause injury to the dog's neck.Periodically check the fit of the choke chain, especially if your dog is still growing. Adjust the size as needed to ensure a proper fit. Never leave the collar on the dog while unattended! |
